Why Upgrade Your Pool Pump?
A new pool pump isn’t just about performance—it’s about saving time, money, and energy. Benefits include:
Cleaner, healthier water – Strong circulation keeps chemicals distributed evenly and water safe.
Energy efficiency – Modern variable-speed pumps can reduce energy bills by up to 70%.
Longer equipment life – Proper circulation reduces strain on filters, heaters, and plumbing.
Quieter operation – Advanced designs mean smoother, quieter performance.
Compliance with energy standards – Many older single-speed pumps no longer meet efficiency codes.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
Frustrated. We were wary of trying another pool company but after an extended illness over the holidays, our pool had turned green and needed a good cleaning that I just didn't have the time nor energy to do. We met with the owner and shared our prior experiences with companies that didn't communicate, didn't show up as promised and kept trying to upsell services that weren't needed. Owner looks at it - it's dirty but not unfixable. Water levels are great - no need to drain it (Yay!) and there were no chemicals in it at all. We felt like we were in good hands with all the reviews online and paid a deposit for them to begin the process.
Day 1: Tech shows up to start the process. He takes the filters out to clean them (we had requested that they be swapped with our spare cartridges but...) and when he reassembled it, he did not tighten the ring around the pump with a tool and then proceeded to panic that it was going to blow up. My husband took it apart, reassembled it, tightened it and it was good to go. There was no other brushing/cleaning that took place that day nor any chemicals added. The tech was insisting that our pump (4 years old) was going to blow up.
We spoke with the owner and tried again the next day.
Day 2: No cleaning the filters, minimal brushing and some chemicals. Leaves the pump at >3500rpm 24/7.
Day 3: Did not clean the filters or swap them, no brushing. Not sure what else was done but this is definitely not what we were told would happen.
The pump gets left on >3500rpm 24/7 for SIX DAYS STRAIGHT!!!! Day 6: I reach out to the owner again (I'm getting absolutely no communication from them other than me reaching out to them). The response was: 'We'll get you on today's or Tue schedule to do that. If you're home and can send a pic of pool for the color/clarity that would help too.'
Day 7: New tech comes, replaces cartridges, fixes the pump schedule back to normal, brushes it down.
Day 14: No further response, nothing from the company so I reach out AGAIN. He responds that they'll send someone out.
Day 15: Original tech is back (despite this being an issue). The pool doesn't look like it's been brushed, and now he's saying it needs a drain and rinse. Still no communication from the owner. I was really hoping for a good outcome but right now, I feel duped again.
Our records show 8 service visits over this period, and while we were working hard to get your pool right, my communication throughout was not where it needed to be. That's on me.
I'm glad we had the chance to speak this morning and come to an amicable resolution. I wish you all the best and hope your pool is back to perfect soon.

How to Install a Pool Pump in Vail
Installing a pool pump in Vail, Colorado, requires careful planning and execution to ensure your swimming pool operates efficiently in the unique mountain climate. Whether you’re replacing an old pump or installing one for the first time, understanding the proper installation process will help you maintain crystal-clear water throughout the swimming season. This comprehensive guide walks you through the essential steps for a successful pool pump installation in Vail’s high-altitude environment.
Understanding Vail’s Unique Requirements
Before beginning your pool pump installation, it’s important to recognize that Vail’s elevation of approximately 8,150 feet presents specific challenges. The thinner air at this altitude affects pump performance, and the region’s temperature fluctuations demand additional winterization considerations. Additionally, local building codes and electrical requirements must be strictly followed to ensure safety and compliance. Consulting with local authorities or a licensed professional familiar with Vail’s regulations is highly recommended before starting your project.
Selecting the Right Location
Choosing an appropriate location for your pool pump is the foundation of a successful installation. The pump should be positioned on a level, stable surface that can support its weight and vibration during operation. Ideally, place the pump as close to the pool as possible to minimize pipe runs and maintain optimal efficiency. However, ensure the location provides adequate ventilation and protection from the elements, particularly Vail’s intense UV rays and potential snowfall. The pump should be accessible for maintenance while remaining at least five feet from the pool’s edge to comply with electrical safety standards.
Gathering Necessary Tools and Materials
Proper preparation makes the installation process smoother and more efficient. You’ll need a variety of tools and materials, including PVC pipes and fittings, PVC primer and cement, Teflon tape, a hacksaw or PVC cutter, a drill with appropriate bits, mounting hardware, and electrical supplies rated for outdoor use. Don’t forget safety equipment such as gloves and eye protection. Given Vail’s climate, consider purchasing freeze-resistant materials and ensure all components are rated for outdoor use in cold weather conditions.
Preparing the Pump Pad
Creating a solid foundation for your pool pump prevents excessive vibration and extends the equipment’s lifespan. Pour a concrete pad that extends at least six inches beyond the pump’s footprint on all sides, with a thickness of four to six inches. Ensure the pad is level and allow it to cure completely before proceeding with installation. In Vail’s freeze-thaw environment, proper pad installation with adequate drainage prevents frost heaving and structural damage during winter months.
Installing the Pump
Once your pad is ready, carefully position the pump on the prepared surface. Most pool pumps come with mounting holes in the base, which should align with anchor bolts set in the concrete. Secure the pump firmly but avoid overtightening, which could damage the housing. The pump should sit level to ensure proper operation and prevent premature wear on internal components. Leave sufficient space around the pump for air circulation and future maintenance access.
Connecting the Plumbing
Plumbing connections require precision and attention to detail. Begin by dry-fitting all pipes and fittings to ensure proper alignment before applying any cement. The suction line from the pool should connect to the pump’s intake port, while the discharge line connects to the outlet port leading to the filter. Use appropriately sized PVC pipes as specified by the pump manufacturer, typically ranging from one and a half to two inches in diameter. Apply PVC primer followed by cement to each joint, working quickly and twisting the connection to ensure even distribution. Allow all joints to cure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations before pressurizing the system.
Electrical Connections and Safety
Electrical installation is perhaps the most critical aspect of pool pump setup and should ideally be performed by a licensed electrician, especially given Vail’s strict electrical codes. The pump requires a dedicated circuit with appropriate amperage, typically 15 to 20 amps depending on the pump’s horsepower. Install a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) to protect against electrical shock. All wiring must be properly grounded and protected in weatherproof conduit. Never attempt to operate the pump without proper grounding or with damaged electrical components.
Testing and Startup
Before starting the pump for the first time, fill the pump basket and housing with water to prime the system. Check all connections for tightness and verify that all valves are in the correct position. Turn on the power and observe the pump carefully during initial operation. Listen for unusual noises and watch for leaks around all connection points. The pump should quickly establish proper flow and pressure. If the pump fails to prime within a few minutes, shut it down and check for air leaks in the suction line.
Conclusion
Successfully installing a pool pump in Vail requires attention to the area’s unique environmental factors and adherence to local regulations. By following these detailed steps and prioritizing safety throughout the process, you can ensure reliable pool operation for years to come. Remember that while this guide provides comprehensive information, consulting with local professionals familiar with Vail’s specific requirements is always advisable, particularly for electrical work and code compliance. With proper installation and regular maintenance, your pool pump will provide efficient, trouble-free service throughout Colorado’s swimming season.
