Why Timely Repairs Matter
In Oro Valley’s desert climate, pool heaters endure extreme conditions. Dust, calcium buildup, and long run times can wear down systems faster. Delaying repairs can lead to:
Complete system failure requiring costly replacement
Higher utility bills from inefficiency
Unsafe operating conditions from gas or electrical malfunctions
Reduced swimming season and comfort
Shortened lifespan of your equipment
Prompt, professional pool heater repair helps protect your investment while keeping your pool ready year-round.

Got Questions?
We’ve shared a series of our most common questions and answered them. If you need additional information or have other questions, never hesitate to reach out to us.
On gas heaters, the usual causes are a dirty or failed igniter, a gas supply or gas-valve problem, low water flow, or a failing control board. An “IF” or ignition-failure code points to the igniter, gas or flame sensor. Low flow from a dirty filter will also stop a heater from firing.
The heater isn’t sensing enough water flow, so it won’t fire. Check for a dirty filter, a full pump basket, closed valves, or a variable-speed pump set too low for the heater. If flow is fine, the pressure switch itself may be failing.
Most heater problems are repairable, including igniters, sensors, pressure switches and control boards. Replacement makes more sense when the heat exchanger is cracked, leaking or badly scaled, or when an older heater’s repair costs approach the price of a new one. Send photos of your equipment pad and we’ll tell you what we see.
Common heater repairs start at $250. Send photos of your heater on our repairs page for an estimate, and we waive the $125 onsite diagnostic fee for weekly route clients. The price is confirmed on site before any work starts.
Usually the heater can’t prove the flame or sees a safety problem: a dirty flame sensor, low gas pressure, a weak flow switch, or a high-limit sensor tripping. Repeated cycling should be checked by a tech rather than reset over and over.
Common causes are poor airflow over the coil, air temperatures below about 50°F (heat pumps lose efficiency in the cold), low refrigerant, often shown as an LP code, or low water flow. Coils clogged by dust storms are common in Tucson.
Rats and pack rats nest in heaters for warmth and chew wires, igniter leads and sensors. Nests can also block airflow and cause unsafe combustion. Have the heater cleaned and the wiring checked before firing it again, and ask about a rodent screen.
Gas pool heaters commonly last about 6–10 years, and heat pumps often longer. Hard water shortens a heater’s life by scaling the heat exchanger, which is one reason we keep water balanced to the LSI.
Only the power side. Gas heaters and heat pumps have pool-specific igniters, gas valves, flow switches and control boards, so a pool equipment tech is the right call. An electrician is needed when the problem is the breaker, wiring or power to the pad.
